Our bonding project, DIY Save the Dates!

Originally I wasn't sure if I was going to do Save the Dates. I love getting them, but doing a wedding on a budget has caused me to re-evaluate what is really necessary, and what really isn't. (so far, i've convinced myself that most things really ARE necessary....so cuts have got to come at some point, they just haven't come yet!)

Finally, Steve and I decided Save the Dates were something we wanted to do for a couple reasons:
1. Our wedding is in 165 days. We opted for a not-so-long engagement, and we wanted to give our guests as much notice as possible!
2. Our wedding is on a Friday. Most people expect Saturday nuptials, so this was another reason we wanted to alert guests of the date we chose.

I'm so glad we decided to do them because I love how they turned out!! There are a whole lot of really nice and really cute Save the Dates that you can buy ready made, but I opted for an adventure--making them together! Steve is so cute- he has been really into the wedding, which has made planning even more fun! I didn't know what to expect from him, but he is a great groom for more than the obvious reasons! <3 :)

Anyways, we started with a magnet from newandblue.com

Then I ordered some mini envelopes from paper-papers.com, some shiny metallic cards (size a4)  and some translucent envelopes (size a4) from envelopemall.com and started gluing, mounting and printing away. I downloaded a free font from www.dafont.com and loved it soo much it's our official wedding font. I encourage you bride-to-be's to look for free things before you pay for them!
Don't buy fonts as a rule of thumb! =)
I printed our cards on a regular ink jet printer, and I can't tell you how well it worked out.
So see  for yourself! :

I thought the majority of work was done, but no, there was still the outer envelopes to deal with. Steve is good at all art related things, so I printed out a copy of our alphabet and he free-handed the calligraphy for me!! (My mom may be out of a job soon....JK mom, you are so doing the invites!!)

I didn't make him pose, PS, he was putting finishing touches on the final Save the Dates! =)
So there you have it, the save the dates are in the mail, our first DIY project completed, with many more to come....and i'm sure Steve can't wait! =p

I had a feeling you made them, even though they look so professional! Really good job! Love all your choices.
