Another fabulous guest post from my friend Beth! :) Her wedding is two months away:
A few days after getting engaged-we made it a goal to join a gym. I have to admit, as much as I was on board for getting in shape, I was mourning the life that had fostered our relationship- the life of falling in love. You know the life- going to amazing places to eat and always ordering dessert and wine. Eating late night snacks while watching movies cuddled up close. Going to breakfast at a local dive diner and eating the greasiest foods known to man. Getting the potato patch fries, corndog, cotton candy, and dip n dots on a Kennywood trip because that is the OBVIOUS thing to do.
Ok, so at this point you are either with me on this, or think I am an overweight pig! Regardless, this decision to lose weight and be more healthy for the wedding was a huge life change.... and the fat kid inside of me still is mad at the engaged me!
We did the usual browsing around for a gym that would have everything we could ever want- classes, a pool, nice locker rooms.... and quickly found out that was not in our budget. We settled for a nice local community center with a workout room. At this point, the athlete in me was starting to get exited- thinking of all those years playing sports-eating whatever I wanted and looking great because I was active everyday. This could be the ticket! Work out a lot and still eat whatever I want!!! I'm finding out now that at 28 that is not so much the case...
Joining a gym together has also been almost a pre-marriage counseling tool for us. For example, on day one, my fiance quickly learned to not workout next to me and "encourage me" with comments like "come on baby, push it, you can do it, think wedding day." BIG MISTAKE. We now make sure to stay at least a few machines away from each other.
While at this point I have lost some weight and I have found it harder to work out daily due to other life changes, I am glad we made this decision. I do want to feel the best about myself in every way on my wedding day! Although I type this while devouring general tso's amazing chicken... I will continue to try to do my part and hope that the dress, hair stylist, makeup lady, spanks, heels, and every other trick I use the day of will do the job! Here's hoping! :)
What about you?How did you get in shape for your wedding?
